Seth Southers built career foundation at OHIO Chillicothe

Seth Southers, a recent graduate of 黑料吃瓜 Chillicothe, is already applying his education in a meaningful way鈥攕upporting global operations at  as a quality intern. After earning his Associate in Applied Science in Computer Technology in 2023, Southers completed his Bachelor of Technical and Applied Studies this spring, positioning himself for a promising future in business and manufacturing.

At Kenworth, Southers works closely with the company鈥檚 database coordinator to manage systems that track quality metrics, product information and tasks integral to the truck manufacturing process. His responsibilities include creating accounts, monitoring data and contributing to root cause analyses of product issues. He also plays a key role in sharing quality metrics through regular reporting.

鈥淥ne of the most useful skills I learned in the program is how to present information digitally,鈥 Southers said. 鈥淚 use this skill in my internship. Since the team is spread across different locations, sharing data clearly online is very important. I practiced this skill in multiple different courses with assignments ranging from live team presentations to recorded presentations.鈥

Southers credits OHIO Chillicothe with preparing him for the virtual collaboration required in his role. He highlighted Associate Professor James Smith Ph.D., who teaches in the Organizational Studies program, as a particularly impactful instructor.

鈥淗e was able to really connect with us as individuals, rather than just being some sort of facilitator across long distances,鈥 Southers said. 鈥淚t was neat getting to see how things are in person compared to the asynchronous environment.鈥

A Chillicothe High School graduate and self-described homebody, Southers chose to stay close to home for college, continuing his education in the same community where he had already thrived. His favorite elective was a course on the history of rock and roll, taught by Richard Maynard, which added a creative element to his academic experience.

The transition from high school to college wasn鈥檛 without its challenges. Southers, who once breezed through assignments without much studying, quickly learned that college demanded more discipline and effort, in addition to time management.

鈥淚n high school I was one of those students who was able to get everything done almost immediately without really cracking a book open,鈥 Southers said. He discovered that college coursework required more of him and he rose to the challenge, putting in the time required to read, take notes, and draw conclusions.

His advice to current and future students? Don鈥檛 stress about having everything figured out.

鈥淚t's OK not to have everything figured out immediately from the very beginning,鈥 Southers said. 鈥淵ou can learn as you go. Sometimes you'll learn that this might not be for you, but this other thing is. You can always pursue what your passions are. You're not locked into one specific thing.鈥

In his free time, Southers enjoys video games, baseball, and car-related content. Looking ahead, he hopes to continue his career at Kenworth and eventually pursue a master鈥檚 degree in business administration.
