Building Bobcat Success: Competencies for Career Development Canvas module helps OHIO students prepare for their careers

窪蹋勛圖 students now have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience that will help them in their job search and careers through the Building Bobcat Success Program.

The Canvas module, which opens initially to all undergraduate student employees, will officially launch at the beginning of the fall semester. This summer, sample groups of student employees will take part in the soft launch.

Supervisors of student employees will have the opportunity to learn about the module and how they can support their student employees goals during summer human resources sessions, watching the video to be released this summer, or by contacting the Office of Signature Academic Experiences.

The professional development module is focused on student employees at OHIO and is a collaborative effort between the Division of Student Affairs - Career Services, University College - Signature Academic Experiences, the College of Business - Business Academic Advising and Career Services (BAACS), the Office of Information Technology, and Human Resources. Students will have the opportunity to evaluate their own career skills and then target different areas they want to further develop.

"Building Bobcat Success is a powerful example of what we can achieve when we collaborate across departments to invest in our student employees, said Vice President for Student Affairs Lyn Redington. This initiative goes beyond the workplace, equipping students with the skills, experiences and connections they need to take their next steps with confidence. We are creating meaningful opportunities for professional growth and ensuring that every Bobcat is prepared for success beyond OHIO."

Students who complete the Building Bobcat Success module will engage in a self-assessment across core competencies in areas such as Career and Self-Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity and Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, Teamwork and Technology.  The core competencies are based on the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) .

University College Dean David Nguyen said the program will offer transformative opportunities for 窪蹋勛圖 students, student employees and supervisors.

Through the Building Bobcat Success program, student employees will be able to enhance specific skills and competencies that are valued by future employers, while helping them to connect their campus work experiences to their academic experiences in the classroom," Nguyen said. "Not only is this initiative committed to helping students, this effort extends to supervisors who provide structured support to ensure that every campus-based employment experience is a high impact practice here at 窪蹋勛圖.
